BCN Drone Center has incorporated 44 ground control point targets that will be used in the MapKite project. The points have been measured with a GPS with subcentimetre precision and are spread in a 2 km area. They will be usable for anyone testing their systems in the UAV Test Site allowing to perfectly validate their imagery georeferencing methods.

BCN Drone Center facilities, fed for two years exclusively with solar energy, has now a new small wind generator that makes an excellent complement to the solar panels because it allows to produce and store energy at night or in low solar radiation conditions. To optimize the electrical system we also decided to double the storage capacity of the battery array. With these improvements the building has now more green energy available for its users.

This October BCN Drone Center has held a new Edition of the UAV Remote Sensing Applications course, which again has received very positive feedback from all participants. Together with the usual sponsors, this time the course has had the collaboration of Pix4D, so all participants have had the chance to try this software using real UAV datasets.

This September we have finished the construction of a brand new fixed ground control station in the BCN Drone Center. It has been prepared to be able to work both a UAV piloting and operation simulator and as a ground control center for beyond line-of-sight operation with UAVs. It integrates all required equipment for the operations such as real-time video display, telemetry data, TCAS system… in order to properly operate any kind UAV from the BCN Drone Center. Fixed-wing UAV operation course students will have the chance to start training with it.
