Medical Drone Flights Between Olot and La Vall d’en Bas
June 6, 2024
BCN Drone Center has successfully completed a drone operation transporting biological samples between the Hospital of Olot and the Primary Care Center (CAP) of La Vall d’en Bas. The mission was carried out in collaboration with TIC Salut and aimed at improving medical logistics in rural areas.
The operation used the Eiger-03 drone by RigiTech, a model specifically designed for medical delivery missions. The route, approximately 7 kilometers long, was flown under BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line of Sight) conditions, following strict safety protocols and regulatory compliance.
This milestone was made possible thanks to BCN Drone Center’s recent acquisition of the Light UAS Operator Certificate (LUC), which allows approved operators to conduct advanced drone operations without requiring previous authorization from AESA (the Spanish Aviation Safety Agency).
The project’s objective is to increase the speed and efficiency of transporting medical samples, particularly in rural settings, while reducing environmental impact and showcasing the potential of drones in public service applications.
This successful pilot marks a significant step forward in integrating drones into public healthcare systems and positions Catalonia as a European leader in emerging health technologies.
