Conducting maritime drone deliveries in Columbretes
February 20, 2025
In February 2025, BCN Drone Center successfully carried out a maritime drone delivery operation to the Columbretes Islands, a protected natural area in the Mediterranean Sea. The mission was conducted for the public company Tragsa, with support from Murcia Drones. Using the DJI FlyCart 30 drone, supplies were delivered from a boat directly to the scientists living on the islands. This type of operation, was made possible thanks to BCN Drone Center’s Light UAS Operator Certificate (LUC), granted under the European regulatory framework.
The operation showcased the capabilities of DJI FlyCart 30, a heavy-lift cargo drone designed for transporting goods in areas that are difficult to access by conventional means. The delivery was executed efficiently and safely, without the need for landing infrastructure — a critical factor in remote and environmentally sensitive locations like the Columbretes. The mission not only provided logistical support to the resident scientists but also demonstrated the growing potential of drone-based logistics in maritime and isolated settings.
Thanks to the operational flexibility provided by the LUC approval, BCN Drone Center is now expanding its “Operations as a Service” (OaaS) delivering real-world solutions with high levels of reliability and regulatory compliance. These kind of missions reflect our ongoing commitment to innovation, practical application of drone technology, and support for critical operations in sectors such as environmental monitoring, research, and emergency logistics.
This successful operation marks a new milestone for BCN Drone Center and reinforces our position as a reference in the European drone ecosystem. With technology, expertise, and the right certifications, we are making the future of logistics not only more accessible but also more sustainable.
