Embention and Flare Bright conduct successful test flights
August 20, 2025
BCN Drone Center has hosted test flights for the
Flarebright systems equipped with
Embention’s safety-critical hardware. The
successful flight tests permitted them to showcase the reliability and robustness of their advanced drone systems.
Flarebright, recognised for its leadership in GPS-Free navigation technology, has partnered with Embention, a specialist in safety-critical avionics. A recent joint flight campaign focused on integrating Embention’s avionics systems into autonomous aircraft has yielded highly successful results. These comprehensive test flights served to demonstrate the superior performance, intrinsic safety, and enhanced efficiency. The successful outcomes underscore the synergy between Embention’s reliable systems and Flarebright’s pioneering GPS-Free navigation capabilities, reinforcing the commitment of both organisations to provide groundbreaking solutions built upon the foundations of reliability.
The test flights permitted to validate the reliability of the Embention’s systems installed in Flarebright’s aircraft. Renowned for its high-performance safety-critical components for drones, Embention’s systems are a reference in the industry, offering systems that are fully compliant with aviation safety certifications DO178C, DO254 and DO160G, making them ideal for applications in UAVs and eVTOL aircraft. In addition, it has been approved as POA and APDOA by EASA, being the first company specialized in autopilots for drones to obtain such approvals. It permits to generate the reliability evidence required for facing an aircraft certification process.
The certified BCN Drone Center hosting the flight test campaign offers a secure environment for UAV operations, featuring a 50 km2 segregated airspace (LETS31) with a ceiling of 4,500 feet AMSL. Its fast activation and low risk makes it ideal for advanced testing. Additionally, the operation under their Light UAS Certificate (LUC), enables the self-authorization for drone operations without requiring external approval from Civil Aviation Authorities.
The success of these flights highlights the critical role of controlled testing environments in advancing the reliability and safety of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) which in turn offers a faster route to testing and evaluation for novel UAS. By utilising BCN Drone Center’s facilities and segregated airspace, Embention and Flarebright reaffirm their commitment to delivering high-performance, dependable solutions to the UAV industry while showcasing the readiness of their technologies for commercial and industrial deployment.
