If you plan to operate drones in areas requiring airband communication, such as near aerodromes, heliports, or controlled airspace, you’ll need a valid UAS Radiophonist certification under Spain’s latest drone regulations (Real Decreto 517/2024).

Why Do You Need This Certificate?
According to Real Decreto 517/2024, UAS pilots must obtain both theoretical and practical radiophonist certification to communicate using the aeronautical mobile service (airband) when required by air traffic service (ATS) providers or aerodrome operators.
This is especially important when flying in or near:
Controlled airspace
Airports and heliports
Airspace zones requiring real-time coordination with ATC
Course Overview
1. Theoretical Certification (Online via AESA)
Complete the online training and pass the theoretical test directly through AESA.
This is a mandatory first step before taking the practical training.
2. Practical Certification (with BCN Drone Center)
Once you've passed the theoretical test, we’ll provide the practical training and evaluation.
Conducted in collaboration with authorized AESA examiners, our practical sessions prepare you for real-world radio communication with ATC.
Upon passing, you’ll receive the Practical Radiophonist Certificate, valid for 2 years.

Already Certified Under the Old Regulation?
If you hold a radiophonist certificate issued under Real Decreto 1036/2017 (via an ATO or ultralight school), your certificate remains valid until June 25, 2026. After that date, the new certification process will be required.
